| Hail Reports | |||||||||
| Fri 22 Oct 2004 ~ I recorded hail up to only 1.2cm in size with the most common size being around 1cm in a heavy | |||||||||
| amount. The storm struck us from the W at 1240 lasting no more than 3mins but leaving a 40% coverage over our lawn. | |||||||||
| Later on that day at 1635 a much larger, more impressive looking storm struck us from the WNW giving us only some | |||||||||
| heavy rain & brief strong winds - I was expecting some large & possibly damaging hail! In the mins leading up to this | |||||||||
| storm I looked at the BoM's radar which was showing patches of red to our immediate west. With mins to spare, I drove | |||||||||
| my car to the nearest shelter (under a bridge nearby) - I was second to arrive & before too long the area was full. At | |||||||||
| about 1638 a bolt of lightning struck the bridge overhead, the thunder sounded like an enourmous fire cracker - lucky I | |||||||||
| was in my car at the time, unfortunately I stopped filming with my video camera only about 5 seconds before the strike. | |||||||||
| Other reports of hail occurred near Maitland to about the size of golf balls (no more than 10km from my home!) with very | |||||||||
| strong winds. My friend Tim at Berry Park recorded a gust of 108km/h during the event. | |||||||||
| See http://raymondterrace.hunterweather.com for a full report of the event by going to the "Data" link on the left hand | |||||||||
| side. Now go to the "Extreme Weather" link on the right hand side. Note that this particular extreme weather event will | |||||||||
| only last until our next occurs. | |||||||||
| Sun 24 Oct 2004 ~ Muswellbrook is devastated by a monster storm bringing 10cm+ style hailstones! - Frightening. | |||||||||
