Brief 2008 Summary of Significant Weather Events
Jan 18th Strong S'ly bought extended periods of moderate rain totalling 96.6mm till 9am.
Apr 25th A week of heavy rains ending on this day saw several rivers around the Hunter issued with flood warnings
for the second time within the previous 12 months
Jul 28th A cold day saw my lowest ever 3pm temp of 9.6°C recorded, this was in the middle of a minor temp spike as
both the preceeding 2 hours & the succeeding 1 hour saw the temp drop below 9°C. This day produced little
snow about the tablelands due to a saturated atmosphere reducing lapse rates also accompanied by little
convective cloud inland. Elevated areas to the north fared better snow wise with the Barrington Tops
receiving ~5cm & further north, Guyra ~7cm.
Aug 23rd Cool S'ly winds & isolated storms in the hunter saw Polblue in the Barrington Tops under a 30cm cover of
snow. This apparently lasted for several days & kept local roads imapssable.
Sep 6th Saw the last of four consecutive days of rain which again bought about flood warnings in the local area.
Dec 8th Golf ball sized hail apparently observed in Raymond Terrace, on my travels I only come across torrential rain
causing local flash flooding & gusty winds. Despite this I still feel this report is plausible.
Dec 29th A large storm produced golf ball sized hail in several surrounding areas with only small hail here in RT. We
did however receive gusty winds & extremely heavy rainfall to 300mm/h which was an all time record.
