Extreme Rainfall
~ For the second time in under 12 months flood warnings were issued for rivers around the Hunter. Consistent rains
during summer along with two particularly heavy rainfall days this month culminated in minor to moderate flooding
particularly along the Williams River. I recorded 62.0mm till 0900 on the 23rd which consisted of only light to moderate
but steady rain. The 25th however saw 84.0mm till 0900 with light rain punctuated by some very heavy showers.
One in particular at 0419 produced a max rain rate of 180mm/hr which is a record since the new gauge was bought
into use from 1 Jan - note this surpassed that of any storms we received thru the whole of summer..
Rainfall Rate Calculations - for new TB3 gauge
~ As mentioned in my Oct 2007 report, I am still getting an erratic tipping pattern. I have since obtained data from my
mate's gauge (same sort as mine) for similar results. I contacted Hydrological services regarding this but they have
apparently never heard of this. As a result I have adapted my rain rate calculations to be taken over 1mm at a time - that
is the time taken for each block of 5 tips to occurr.
Barrington Tops Additions
~ Fri 25th - Made another trip to Hunter Springs to gather data & install a new wireless thermometer for Mrs Wright.
With this she will now be able to read the temperatures from inside the comfort of her home to a resolution of 0.1°C.
